Classic example is Worthington. Nobody wanted him as boss but he was 100% success (he was and anybody who says he failed is talking bollocks just look at the state we are in now!).
But this is a gut feeling argument, the likes of the managers I've mentioned would send us down. I thought at the time Grant was an awful appointment and nobody changed by mind on that despite using logic like yours and ultimately I was correct.
