They've quite clearly run out of money: why else appoint such a cheap option in Sammy Lee in the first place? Moreover, as the article below shows, Bolton achieved so much BECAUSE of employing the long ball: it was Lee's bonkers idea to change to a passing game while keeping the same players which buggered everything up.
They can't afford a load of new signings - so the only option is a cheap manager who'll try to recreate the Allardyce style. Megson fits the bill perfectly - and by the way, his record is nowhere near as bad as people often make out. Did ok at Blackpool, remarkably at Stockport, and overachieved enormously at West Brom: sure, it went wrong at Forest, but he can still do a job for someone. Bolton might yet stay up, y'know: stranger things have happened (that horse becoming Pope, for one).
