Confooosed in the Big City

Signs up in the Underground saying "From blah blah date we no longer accept cheques. Please ask a member of staff for more information."

So I went up to a member of staff and said, I note you're no longer accepting cheques. That's right, she said. Can I have some more information, I asked. She said, what? I said, I said can I have some more information about that please? She said well, from blah blah date we've stopped taking personal cheques. I said yes, I know, that's what that sign over there says. Yes, she said. I said, but, I want more information, and that sign told me to ask for some. Well, she said, what more do you want to know? I said, how can I know that when it doesn't say what information to ask for...

I've never seen a grown up actually having an apoplectic fit before. It was a little scary, actually. I think next time they should just put the extra information on the poster and be done with it, or their unions will be after them, I bet.
