Ext-js looks pretty cool at first glance

I've been using prototype on a few projects and find the AJAX stuff really handy.

I wouldn't bother using AJAX for a menu though.

A menu should be search engine friendly so I would recommend basic lists of links. Suckerfish is a good CSS technique for drop down menus.
