By now the clubs board should have a list of targets that they have identified as wanting to become the new manager.
Any other business would do it, identify the person that they want to guide us to safety and drive us forward and go out and get there man. If they don't get him, its to the next man on the list. I think they call it being pro active not reactive. Headhunting.
How much has getting rid of Peter Grant cost? I'll tell that it was several months wages of a half decent centre half. If we'd have drawn a list of possible targets 12 months ago, there is no way we would be in this situation now. No disrespect because I liked the bloke, but what had Peter Grant ever done in mangagement ot even deserve an interview?
Mr Doncaster is telling us that we have already had a few calls from people wanting to be our manager. Not good enough. With the amount of money that they are willing to pay such a person and with the squad, facilities and support that this club boasts, I am not suprised that people have shown an interest. That's not to say that they are any good.
I had several good jobs before, not because I was any good but because I could conduct myself well in a interview (I haven't bothered applying by the way!). It doesn't matter if the board doesn't like manager, the important thing is that person must be able to do the job. Furthermore, if they aren't too pally, it won't be such a wrench for nice little Norwich to get rid of him if it does go tits up again.
As I have heard many times over the past few days, we are in a results business. Forget who talks a good game, not interested. Lets get the right manager for this job. I don't care if its bloody Osana Bin Laden (although unlikely admittedly), if he does the business for Norwich he will be liked by the fans.
Lets appoint a bloody winner for a change. I liked Grant a lot, talked well and represented our club admirably to the end. Where did he get us in a year? I couldn't help but like Worthy and Hamilton before him as people and ambassadors of our club. Lets stop being bloody nice and get someone who is right for this job, keeping Norwich in the championship and aiming for the play offs (remember Sunderland this time last year?).
Warnock - what a w**ker! But I wouldn't be the first on this board to say that he would have done a good job hear.
Crook, Bowen, Phelan and Dion - forget them, love them all but they can cut their teeth in management elsewhere.
Steve Bruce - Rock and a hard place time. Loved him as a player and done well as a manager. Sentiment says yes but as outlined above, maybe a bit too nice.
Allen, Jewell, Adams, Newell, Ince or Wise - Any particular order, lets go out and get one of these. Don't care if he's already managing (Ince and Wise). We would think twice about shelling out £1m for a decent centre half on £15k a week, lets do it for the most important job at this club.
I feel as though I'm going on a bit now, so I will call it a day. Hope that some of you agree the points Ive raised.
