Any manager would of thought the same thing, Grant however (stupidly) said it.

Fact is the support WAS s**t that night, many DID get on the players back in stead of getting behind them and we lost the game.

Was it the sole factor? probably not.
The fact was it was a major contributor.
So the point was correct, his honesty was plain, but also incredibly niave (sp).
