I think there is a succession plan - well, of sorts...

Grant was toast after the Scunthorpe game at the very latest (and the board may even have concluded he'd have to go after Sheff Wed). So they've started sounding out agents and contacts about various candidates. But it makes sense to wait til the international break to actually break with Grant - and moreover, there's a compo package to be arranged (which would, if he goes straight into another job such as Pardew's assistant at Charlton, be considerably reduced, I'd have thought).
