Of course, Romanov is the worst case scenario, and justifies the board being cautious. Fine - but the impression I get is they won't entertain anyone who doesn't buy into their entire ethos of the club: cuddly, homespun, family orientated etc. Isn't it more and more clear that we're going to have to be truly ruthless to succeed? Doesn't the failure of the last decade suggest a change of approach is needed?

On Brellier: honestly, I don't know. It's questionable how many players have improved under Grant and Duffy, and possible he's joined another club with an unhappy dressing room. I certainly think another manager could get more out of him - equally though, his messiah-like status at Tynie owed an awful lot to his becoming a symbol, a cause celebre, of the havoc Romanov was wreaking. This led many fans to act as though JB could do no wrong: and for him to become pretty overrated (he was certainly a good, solid player, more than capable of doing well in this division, though).
