The fact that he has black skin is also a feature of his face, but it doesn't make it OK to call him "Blackie" or "Sooty". It's derogatory.

And yes, this IS different from nicknaming your mate "Lanky", because he is not a member of a minority community which has suffered centuries of prejudice and persecution.
