That the main thing we needed in the summer was a new centre back, probably two to make up for the incabilities of Doherty and Shackell. To compound this, Grant makes Shackell captain which means he has to play when fit (despite the fact he is NOT good enough). Our best centre back is Dion Dublin, who is 39 and slow. We have another young centre back who is captain of his country at Under 19 level and gets nowhere near our team. No doubt slow old Murray will start with Donk versus Man City.
I would have spent about half of our summer budget (say 1.5-2 million) on a centre back. It just seemed obvious to me, not Grant obviously.
We are not scoring goals, so we must stop conceding them. This doesn't look like happening and I seriously think our fantastic football club could be in League One next year. It is a complete shambles. I don't think all the blame lies with Grant, we have been on the decline for 3 years now but his inexperience in the transfer market and tactically is really showing.
