positives from today: Murray looked good at centre back, and Marshall had a pretty good game. And that's it.
Was it as bad as Plymouth and Burnley last year? Or Wolves the year before? Quite possibly not, but differentiating between performances of such crass ineptitude is pretty difficult. What is clear is that almost from the moment we won promotion we lost the plot on the footballing side and Grant, on today's evidence, has done very little to alter that.
I understand what the manager is trying to do, his strategy seems sensible, the signings make sense, but it doesn't look like it has worked.
As far as Messrs Shackell and Brellier are concerned their performances are an insult to those of us who pay their wages. We spent well over £100 on attending today's game, and we have to work bloody hard to earn it. Do they understand that? Or care? I would be quite content if I never see either of them play for us again. Shackell in particular, as today's "tackle" and last season's assault at Coventry show, is likely to end someone's career sooner or later. I'm not all dewy-eyed about our footballing tradition, but do we really want someone like that in our team, let alone as Captain?
What is the way forward? I don't see the point in sacking the manager - but numbers on the coaching side are down and I think we need someone in to freshen things up. Watford got Hunter, for God's sake lets try and bring Malky back.
The problem is midfield - and we know the manager didn't want to lose Desmond, and the best performance there was from Fotheringham in the Southampton game - so we can say he has been unlucky, but Brellier and Russell have plainly not done what was expected of them.
The biggest difference between the sides today was pace - Wolves simply ran much faster than us. We were simply ran out of the game, and dropping Brown was a mistake. The ball simply just kept coming back at us because Dave was simply muscled out of it. Cureton did precisely nothing. Russell huffed and puffed to precisely zero effect. Doherty was actually pretty solid, and, let's face it, when he gets himself sent off it's not for something in the opposition's half. Huckerby, I reckon, touched the ball 3 times.
Man of the Match for Norwich? Marshall has claims, but I'd go for either Croft or Gilks.
