The line up beforehand. FFS, whats PG playing at? 4-5-1 with a non-scoring striker as the "1"? Oh dear oh dear. Its so negative. It says to your opponets "...we respect you, we're a little bit scared of you, we think you are better than we are, and we are going to try to play for a draw..."
Respect? Fear? Better than us? It was CHARLTON, Peter! Not Arsenal. 4-5-1. Hate it with a passion.
And don't dress it up as 4-3-3 as in "when we attack, we're 4-3-3, when we defend, we switch to 4-5-1", dear God, don't overload the players mind with such technical matters. In any case, we don't have the players to play 4-3-3, its one of the hardest formations to play properly & requires the type of players we don't have-that is, good ones!
There have been calls for playing Lappin and Otsemobor as wing backs on here in a 5-3-2 and I agree with that. It can mean playing Shackell and Dublin in the middle and Brellier just in front on them. It means we can get behind teams more and get forward by playing the ball, instead of the long, hopeful high passes to Brown that bless him, he tries manfully to deal with, but he isn't good enough-Heskey, theres a hold up forward, Howard even, at Derby. Brown? No. And I rather wonder if he might not be worth a try in the centre of defence sometimes.
Finally, drop Cureton?-yes, that'll do wonders for his confidence won't it?
Granty, you are not a Wenger. Adopt a style of play, get the players familiar with it, keep working at it. And stop being so bloody negative? 4-5-1 at Wolves eh, bet it is....after all, they're the mighty Wolves, oooh, scary, lets go there and scrape a point....never mind f**king HULL CITY went and won there last night!
Oh yes, where the f**k is Chris Martin, Peter?
Rant over. If you got this far, well done. Sorry, but it just seems the more things change, the more they stay the same at the moment. Knee jerk I expect, but....
