actually his point then was

that Croft should have been pushing on for a goal, but was out of position so was less likely to be able to push on with any positive effect - so by having to backtrack he wouldn't be able to get back in the right place quickly enough. He did actually say that he 'didn't want to sit back and defend' - although last night's tactics didn't quite bear that one out!!
