I found the 2005-2006 season and his refusal to step down incredibly frustrating, but now he's been gone over a year I see his time at Norwich in long-shot rather than close-up.
Which basically means that when he was comfortable within his limitations - no big names or players with egos - he was able to build a team that for the most part (2001, the play-off season, 2003-4, bits of 2002-3) worked very well for him.
And then once he found himself so horrendously out of his depth in the Premiership, he never recovered. That said, I have some very fond memories of that (Man Utd, Newcastle, Charlton, the 4-4 with Middlesbrough) and really wish him well as NI manager. Can't see him succeeding, though ...
