Wireless Network Question (Techie Help Required)

I had Virgin Media broadband and tv installed today and I'm trying to set up a wireless network.

When i connect directly to the modem through ethernet i can get online fine, like now. But when i try to connect wirelessly to the same modem it only gives me Local access.

I'm clueless past this point. Anybody have any help it would be much appreciated.
