The Problem I have with the term 'whipping boy' is it denotes...

someone who is being singled out unfairly. Many of the players singled out over the last few season including Docherty, Hughes. Henderson and Holt at the time they were singled out weren't good enough to have been pulling on the yellow and green each week. Don't get me wrong I don't agree with some of the ways these players were singled out such as booing them as happened with the doc on saturday but at the same time I think the fans have every right to express there approval if someone isn't good enough to be playing for the team.

I also don't buy this "Docherty busts a gut in every game" argument. So what if he does? What if he busts a gut and then drags someone down near the penalty area or gives a penalty which results in a goal? Does the fact he "busted a gut" mean he should be uncriticisable? The fact is he's been poor for a long time now and has needed replacing. I don't hold out much hope however that Grant will do this before the transfer window closes.
