Thoughts on last night

Basically PG has 3 days to save our season by getting in a new/some new defenders. Although the thrill of actually seeing us win a penalty shoot out almost made it worth it last night was shambolic and any decent team would have put five or six past us. If we do not get it sorted now then we will be relegation candidates. A few thoughts:

1. Pg got the selection wrong. It should have been 4-4-2 from the start with lappin at left back. All our players look much more settled in that system.

2. Murray was absoultely terrible. Slow, weak and beaten by his man constantly. He looks like a player who has had viral arthritis for 2 years and has no stregth in his body at all.

3. The central defence - WW2 I hear you cry but my god were they awful. Doc should have been sent off and struggled all night (save for about 15 minutes after he got booked when he made some heroic blocks). Shackell was just as bad. I cannot decide if he is not good enough or just lacks confidence when Dion is not playing next to him but he is poor at the moment. if we get beyond the transfer window without sorting this part of the team we are in big trouble.

4. Both Brellier and Russell are much happier in a 2 man central midfield. JB was poor for an hour last night but grew as the game went on and was playing quite well towards the end.

5. Hucks is and remains a legend and was our main attacking threat all night despite having not played more than 45 minutes in 2 months. Hope he did not overdo it as we will need him on saturday.

6. Dion is still class. He looked much better than Brown. If only he was 5 years younger!

All in all good to win but a very worrying night. Rochdale will wonder how they lost.
