He still ought to be going. If he dies he'll become a national hero and will be saved from a life of pointless celebrity involving divorce, substance addiction, tabloid scandal and meaninglessness. If he lives, he'll still have to go through the pointless rest of his life but at least he'll have the satisfaction of not having been pulled out from the only thing he's actually qualified to do.
