I've just had a look around the new official site and was appalled by the amount of screen space handed over to adverts.
I realise the website gives the club a chance to make money but it's primary purpose is to offer a service to the fans.
It seems the website brief was 'how do we squeeze as much cash out of this as possible' when it should have been 'what services and features do our fans want'.
Successful websites don't succeed by plastering every available space with adverts and hiding the content in a sea of flashing banners.
I can't believe the site generates any more than a tiny percentage of the clubs overall income.
Wouldn't it be best for the club to reevaluate their deal with Premium TV and give something back to the fans instead of prostituting themselves for what amounts to pocket change?
The new official website is an embarrassment and sums up football's obsession with squeezing every last penny out of the fans pockets without offering anything in return.
A well thought out and designed site would allow the club to really connect with the fans and build up a sense of community.
We've all been sold short with this new website by a club that likes to talk a good game but fails to deliver both on the pitch and in the board room. The new site is nothing more than another shining example of the club completely ignoring what the fans want to deliver a cynical service designed to part us from our money.
