They just keep coming; the sending address is either hijacked or faked, so no point sending anything back (and you'll be caught). Replying to a spammer can also just confirm that your account is active and therefore more valuable to the spammers, so you'll just get more ... There are huge networks of compromised PCs all over the world that are sending this stuff out.

About all you can do is install a filter. Bayesian spam filters used to be great for text messages, but the spammers have switched to messages in bitmaps.

The other alternative is to close down all your email accounts. Create a new one and be very careful how you use it. Create one-off accounts for registering with web-sites (then you'll know who's selling them on).

Never put your email address in clear text on any web-site ever.
