Aaah.. now I know where I've been going wrong...

..I've been wrapping the mouse up in tin foil (Tesco's, 45cm wide, 15m long) in the hope that it would deter passing aliens from transmitting radioactive spam to the hard drive.. which in turn could destroy the world..
