It’s quite simple

He was signed for £5m and given an appropriate salary to the value of the transfer fee. His market value has decreased significantly over the years he has been here as he has been ok, nothing more, in terms of performance. As such we deem that his value in wage terms is less than what he would take to remain. Factor in that he will get a large signing on fee for himself, as he is on a free transfer, the money he will get by going else where is much bigger than he would get by remaining. The club have known this l is the case for a long while, l hence the discussions hardly even started.

We will sign a decent experienced keeper on lesser wages and Gunn will either sign as a number 2 at a premier league club and get similar money to what he was on with us or sign for a rich championship team such as Birmingham who again will pay him the wages he wants.

Is summary it’s just football. Good luck to Angus. He won’t go down as a Norwich great but he will be remembered fondly as the son of Bryan Gunn.
