And it will have been obvious to both that the absolute maximum we might have been willing to offer (or able to) was sufficiently below the minimum he wants that it wasn’t even worth talking about. Hence both parties need to just move on quickly as there is simply no deal to be done. Our failure to offer a contract isn’t really a snub, it’s just business.
