Covid

Obvs. 2021 season dragged on, as of 2021/22 it has been end of May.

Don't know why they lengthened it by a couple of weeks but I can imagine some reasoning:

- they realised in the Covid season that people would continue to watch it, so by spreading the season out a little longer it potentially gives more advertising spots for broadcasters to sell.
- whining from PL managers about the season being too congested.

Of course, with FIFA and UEFA doing all they can to drag more money out of people and federations by enlarging the Euros and World Cup, introducing the new Club World Cup, etc, this will ultimately end up with more and more injuries and lower quality of all competitions as some club players are only going to get one summer off / full pre season prep every 4 years and I am sure they will find a reason to put some money grabbing tournament in that slot too before long.
