Humans are unevolving

Sobering analysis in the FT this morning about how cognitive abilities are declining. Drivers: decline in reading, rise in constant barrage of notifications/rapid context switching, unwillingness to engage intellectually and always take the TL;DR as gospel rather than think anything through properly.

For example the proportion of adults who can use mathematical reasoning to review and evaluate the validity of statements has declined everywhere (and particularly in the US where over a third of adults are now unable to do this)

I can only see this trend continuing with the rise of AI which will do stuff for you that you might previously have done yourself.

It's a concern.
