I agree. NATO doesn't meaningfully exist any more

Trump is right that the European countries haven't spent enough on defence, relying on Uncle Sam; but to say they'd decide whether to defend an attacked member state at the time based on spending record and who knows what else just blows the whole concept out of the water. Truman, Reagan etc will be spinning in their graves.
