Don't get me wrong I bloody love Farke but there is a bit of rose tinted nostalgia going on below...
During the 2nd promoition season he tweaked his 4-2-3-1 system to be a bit tighter, effectively playing 2 midfielders who were deeper. And having Skipp helped.
Then when we got promoted he suddenly changed to 4-3-3 based around Billy bloody Gilmour! What the f**k was that all about? We had never played 4-3-3 why did we not play it beforehand if it was going to be the plan in the prem? This is on Farke and was a terrible decision.
When it became clear that it wasn't going to work he floundered around but performances were not good. Plus none of the signings were oven ready for the brutal Prem.
So it was not surprising he was sacked. We were playing terribly and the fans would have turned which would have been a great shame.
The signing of Dean Smith made complete sense on paper. Tacatically pragmatic. Prem experience. Promotion experience. History of developing youth. For various reasons it didn't work out for him, partly because I don't think his heart was ever really in it, but also beacuse he was barely able to sign a single player over his tenure.
