X is run by a t**t who thinks it's funny to do Nazi salutes for the lols so I've deleted myself from off of on there. I started out on Bluesky but am not massively engaged and haven't been there probably for a month or six weeks or so. It's just, well, boring. It does feel like there's a space that no-one's quite occupying but social media in general has succumbed to Doctorow's "ens**ttification". I only stay on facebook for the microcommunities I'm in there, I joined it (after FriendsReunited) as a way to keep loose contact with people I wasn't likely to see at all or very often but was still interested in hearing of/from but there's not a lot of that there these days, the main feed is s**te. I deleted Tiktok within a week of installing it; I've never had snap; I use insta to send dog memes to my other half who finds them amusing and nothing else really.
Ironically the one I go back to is Reddit and might come off Facebook and just loiter there occasionally. Quora is a nice idea but the execution doesn't quite work for me.
I accept that I'm not the target demographic but I struggle to see the point of social media in the round. It's well known that it damages people, particularly vulnerable people in their teens/early twenties, and makes money from doing so.
Anyway, time to layer up and f**k off to the ground #grumpyoldman
