It shows

what you want to see:

Kenny watched the player coming up behind him and raised his arm as a shield (as happens at every corner for example); he moved his arm quickly because the player was coming quickly and because the throw was about to be taken; accidentally, if at all, the arm - which was not raised to much of height - hit the player, who (as every QPR player had done throughout the game) made the most tremendous meal of his agony, in a fashion highly impressive to middle aged men in grey suits, and of course, to badminton enthusiasts;

alternatively, Kenny watched the player coming up behind him, and decided for some reason to smash him in the face with his arm, in full view of all the officials.

So yes, I suppose you might be right.
