Baseball economics explained

This isn't easily comparable with football for a whole load of reasons.

Firstly, there are 162 regular season games (excluding playoffs) which reduces the salary cost per game.

Secondly, matchday revenue is significantly greater in terms of merchandise and catering. Each team probably draws on an immediate fan base of 30 million people.

Thirdly, batsmen like Soto can easily last until 40 years old because his game is based on power and hand/eye coordination. The physical fitness element is less important than football. Signing Soto is the equivalent of signing a 20 year old Messi for the rest of his career.
