Had a ST, then a home ST and away ST, then had to stop going for a few years, now have home ST and don't do away games.
Away fans are better in very many ways, including at generating atmosphere and making a fun whole-day experience (occasionally ruined by 90 minutes' football).
I guess part of it is simply that if you live within walking distance of the ground (as I do), it's not much effort to get to a game. I don't leave early (though I did miss the lap of honour last night) but plenty do, for no reason other than to avoid the rush at full time.
Whereas by definition almost no away fan lives within walking distance of the ground "this week" and everyone's had to make a positive choice and much more of an effort to be there. When you've made that kind of effort, sitting and grumbling doesn't feel like a great choice.
Obviously there are still travelling negative nellies. But far, far fewer in proportion. I do sit in the South Stand these days so maybe my sample is skewed though!
