Presumably the stats back up the xG allocation?

I.e. a first time shot from a cross to the edge of the box is statistically less likely (based on the outcome of shots from a similar position across thousands of matches) to result in a goal than a shot from where Sainz was, when he had the ball under control already.

I doubt xG takes into account positioning of defenders, e.g. there were none in front of slimane, but maybe it does.

It's not bollocks just because people don't understand what it's telling them and how it's calculated. Like any data, it's about building up a bigger picture understanding of areas that can be improved.
