actually it's good for the environment

given that washing dishes by hand is not as good for the environment as using a dishwasher and the number of dishes washed remains a constant (unless you start cooking and eating more), so the life of each dishwasher is extended and instead of replacing a solo dishwasher earlier with the other one, both share the burden and effectively double their working lifespan. which is kinder to both of them.
