You play stronger teams if you promotion

The best thing about the Nations League is countries playing competitive games against teams more or less their level. Rather than the regular mismatches in euros and WC qualifiers, or pointless friendlies.

Eg just over the last weekend - Moldova winning 1-0 vs Andorra, San Marino and Gibraltar drawing 1-1. And then the winners at each level boost their chances of qualification for the next euros - they basically get a second chance to qualify via play offs.

To make it all work and keep games live, you need promotion and relegation.
