but one might think that the quid pro quo for working to support others through state benefits is that they (if able to do so) will do the same for you if and when the time comes - or at least, not complain bitterly about the suggestion - if nonetheless, the state can't afford the benefit, then so be it, unfashionable though it is to suggest that there's anything the state can't do and afford
