What does playing experience have to do with being head coach?

Maybe relevant to the first job or two but if you prove yourself capable, as he has, then the only relevance is perhaps the respect shown from the group, but if you’ve also earned that by other means (which is a better signal than your history of doing a different job to be fair), then how is it even relevant?
