In "career" terms yes he'd be mad. In "life" terms I could see it

if his missus is homesick as reported (somewhere? CBA to check that tbf) or he is. He's earned enough money for a comfortable time the rest of his life already if he's looked after it wisely and there comes a point for all of us where life wins out in the work-life balance questtion.
