Sgt Maj or Sergeant Major

You need to be consistent in your abbreviated and long forms as there are protocols to follow. Not sure about lah de dah gunner graham's royal artillery but the guards for example eschew the abbreviated form, it has no place anywhere. they even use the long form for car parking spaces so instead of CO being daubed on the CO's parking space they paint out Commanding Officer in full the weirdos. They then double down on weirdness as they call the Regimental Sergeant Major "The Sergeant Major" and the Company Sergent Major's are all Drill Sergeant's. Lance Corporals are Corporals because Queen Victoria didn't want to be guarded by troops with only one stripe and Corporals are Lance Sergeants.

in short, avoid the Guards ladies and gentlemen, they are f**ked right up, not least the big hats.
