Just throw in the kids

I've been thinking about this since the weekend. I'm sure I wasnt alone in having a "heart sinks moment" when the team was announced for Oxford with all the old timers in. A sense of doom that was then of course followed by a s**t show that fully justified a sense of doom.

So why didnt we throw in more kids? I mean it worked a treat when we did it with Ben, Jamal, Max etc? And it's got to be better than watching Duffy-Hanley?

My worry is that JHT and team has surveyed the youth set up and just doesnt see anything that is remotely ready. Throwing in pretty s**t players just because they're young is, obviously, not going to work.

For what its worth (often not much) I listened to The Pinkun mob's Sunday podcast, and they listed off Norwich's youngest players. I've now looked them up - here is the top 12 youngest. (from here: User Posted Link

- Kris Renton
- Michael Spillane
- Rossi Jarvis
- Bally Smart
- Korey Smith
- Kieron Gibbs
- Ryan Bertrand
- James Henry
- Omar Koroma
- Ched Evans
- Ben Godfrey
- Carlton Morris

I think we can all agree....that is a pretty mixed bag. Obviously a few loanees in there, a few of which went on to do well. A few Norwich lads that have had decent careers, often not with us for that long....Godfrey of course.....and quite a few players (mostly from mid/late 2000s) that went on to do pretty much f**k all, and proved to be s**t.

I really worry that the rebuild is going to have to be much bigger than it appears even now, because our youth team is packed with s**t players that really arent going to make it. There is no Max that is just waiting for the chance. Just a load of Bally Smarts.

I'd really welcome views from anyone that has a good feel for what we have coming through? Do we in fact have a conveyor belt of talent that just needs the chance? Or are we staring down the barrel of Conor McGrandles?
