His absence for much of 2022/23 was due to a stress fracture, then an ankle "break" and later a hamstring tweak.
At the time there was little press coverage of his health, but that could easily be explained by him being outside the main, senior squad (see Dan Barden)

I have heard a rumour about that 2022/23 season that fits the 'narrative', but I am not inclined to believe it.
