A couple of things...

The use of 'hard left' is increasingly used to label anyone who has a vague interest in social justice or progressive issues.

Accusations of anti-semitism against the Left are often used to try and undermine criticisms of the actions of the state of Israel. It is a deliberate tactic to conflate Jewish people with the actions of the government. In many cases it is quite succesful. This is quite a good summary from a US perspective: User Posted Link
