I think he thrives on unquestioning belief in his ability

He gets on with coaches when they agree with him that he's brilliant.

But as soon as they suggest he might not be, his confidence dips, which he blames on the coaching staff, and they blame him, and on it goes until it falls apart.

He'll go somewhere else, start off brilliantly because they all love him, then something won't go quite right and he'll get a bit of criticism, and it'll all fall apart again
