Lots won’t. I was chatting to a friend who runs a group of prep schools. They’ve had two effects so far - one is a big wedge of cash (!) because some rich parents have decided to pay five years of fees up front to avoid the VAT; the other is a 20-25% (already …) reduction in numbers as parents decide not to take up places. (I think it’ll be worse for prep schools because if you start at 8 you’re pretty much committed to private all through, whereas you could start state and switch at 13 without too much trouble.)
It won’t affect the really wealthy, so the schools will become less socially diverse.
