In Kent (west kent, anyway), there are a lot of private primaries for parents wanting to get their kids through the kent test and into Grammar schools. There aren't so many private secondary schools, other than the ultra elite ones.
I think the overall impact is that elite institutions become more elite.
Those that can afford the likes of Tonbridge School (£40k per year plus), can probably still afford it.
I know a fair few people that send their kids to private primary round my area (to try and get their sprogs through the Kent test and into grammar school), that aren't high earners. The £12k or so per year is similar to the cost of pre-school childcare, and they just such that up for the primary school years.
I think there a few smaller private primaries that might not survive. It won't be instant, but I suspect it might put a few parents off in time and numbers will start to dwindle, and so the slide begins.
