That we should keep Southgate or that our next appointment needs to be experienced?

Southgate deserves a lot of credit for what he’s achieved, but the time is right for a fresh start.

I agree it’s hard to see where we’re going to find someone of the calibre required, for me none of the experienced English coaches fit the bill, and although there are some promising young coaches, we need someone that is good at tactics for teams that dominate the ball and dominate games. It’s very different to being manager at Brighton / wolves or wherever.

The number of overseas managers in the EPL and championship is a damning indictment of our ability to produce high quality coaches, but I’d say a good starting point would be to see it as a real specialist skill, that need cultivating from grass roots, rather than something retired players do.
