maybe the political system means that a long term strategy for the good of the country will likely never happen because that will not be popular with, particularly the older, voters. Older voters want jam today and don’t care about the future and their children/grandchildren’s future.
What will the world look like in 50/75 years when I’ll be long gone and those older voters are gone?
The good of the country and the planet will never be a serious consideration for older voters who are statistically more likely to vote. Until young voters realise or wake up to that fact, nothing will change when it could possibly be too late.
As JFK said ‘think not what my country can do for me but what I can do for my country’. Not the Thatcher driven, what’s in it for me, survival of the fittest mentality.
The same applies to the planet…….
