there are a variety of technical approaches that would give pretty much the same degree of accuracy.
The current tech, in the Prem, could resolve things much quicker and more reliably than it does, if they acknowledged its limitations (the one used in the Euros also has limitations).
It's always been about calibration & how pragmatic you are in accepting what it can and can't do.
(the chip in ball tech has its own issues, which I won't go into here, but which is bourn in mind when assessing its outputs)
