Stuart Webber

and the regime he ran are ultimately to blame for this shambles.

Wagner was the average manager he decided to hire (again), because he was bankrupt in terms of footballing ideas and resorted to working with an old friend.

Webber and co. inherited Maddison, Murphy x 2, Pritchard, Howson, Lewis, Aarons, Godfrey and Cantwell from the previous regime, who were all sold on for good money. He also sold Buendia (one of the few signings that regime deserves 10/10 credit for) and Andrew O for big money.

Yet, we’re now only left with a few good to very good championship level attacking players, a couple of decent midfielders, a right back who is good on the overlap, a terrible defence and average keeper, but no players who look like they can clearly make the jump from the championship to the premier league. Years of terrible signings and tens of millions in wasted money under Webber led to this.

The good news is, he’s gone and can’t do any more damage. Let’s just hope the new regime can tear the whole thing up and rebuild something worthwhile and sustainable. That’s the one positive we can hold onto.
