there's a cablecar now up to the top of babadag mountain but not been there since the covids. it's an amazing place around there we stayed in ovacik just up the hill from fethiye which is a great town. i could write page after page on what to see and where to go. kidrak beach is a little gem only really frequented by locals as it's out of the way. there is a modest charge for parking but well worth it. the ghost town at kayakoy village is well worth a visit it used to be a greek village before they were sent away back to greece by the turks in the population exchange in the 1920s.
honestly no worries over safety any more than spain or any other med destination. the people are lovely. kalkan is also well worth considering, a little more upmarket destination but has a lovely chilled vibe to it, great rooftop restaurans overlooking the harbour and a host of beachclubs from cheap as chips kalkan beach club to the superb mahal beach club with a great restaurant set in the cliff side.
