Being a football fan is all about hope, I think

most fans are willing to risk what they've got, unless it's absolutely brilliant, for the hope of something better.

That hope is often irrational.

I would wager those WHU fans you mention are hoping that results will be better as well as the football that is played. If the results are worse, I doubt they'll actually be any happier and will be moaning again this time next season.

A lot of NCFC fans are no different. Wagner has served up a very good 2nd half of the season, but he hasn't won over a good proportion of the fanbase, and depending on how the next two games go, the grumbling could be significant.

Say we don't win the playoffs, would you want him sacked in the hope we appoint someone that can deliver a miracle next season? Or opt for stability by sticking with Wagner, which is less exciting, but objectively more likely to deliver a good season in 24/25 than a new manager with new ideas and lots of new players?

FWIW, I'd be tempted by a new manager because it brings a bit of the excitement of something new and the hope that comes with that. Is that rational? Probably not.
